Bowie Bulldogs Football 2007
General Information
To new parents,
Welcome to the Bowie Boys and Girls Club Football program. We hope you
enjoy this exciting year. This is what you need to know about the football
program:
- Have your child registered (and paid) prior to picking up equipment;
this will speed up the uniform/equipment pickup process.
- Parents, you supply the following:
- Football cleats
- Protective cup
- Mouth piece (this can be purchased from the concession trailer- you will want to buy several as the players tend to chew them up)
- Practice jersey
- MD State Identification Card
- The club supplies the following equipment. Parents are required to
provide a post-dated check (December 15, 2007) of $400, which will be
returned upon receipt of the equipment at the end of the season. Please
have all of the forms filled out completely with a copy of the MD State
ID attached. (Note - only players receiving equipment and football staff
are permitted inside the shed. Please wait for your child outside, as
there is limited space.)
- Girdle - with hip pads and pad for tailbone
- Practice pants with 2 knee pads, 2 thigh pads and 1 belt
- Shoulder pads
- Helmet with chin strap
- Game pants (when the teams are finalized)
- White game jersey (when teams are finalized)
The team moms will let you know the date of equipment return and how it is to be returned.
- Equipment pickup is Saturday July 28th 2007. Time to be determined.
Practices begin the following Monday. They run Monday through Friday
from 6-8pm until school starts, after that one day is dropped - each
head coach determines which day or days will be dropped. Please make
sure your child drinks plenty of water during the day to stay hydrated
during practice.
- Each team needs to obtain sponsors to cover the cost of the trophies,
parties and other expenses during the year. The more money raised the
more each team can do for the players. Remember this is all about them.
- Bowl games, before the beginning of the regular season bowl games
are held. After some of theses games trophies are awarded to the outstanding
players of the game.
- Homecoming - a Bonfire with homecoming court and homecoming party
is held every year. The Homecoming court consists of a King and Queen,
which are chosen from the highest weight class of football and the corresponding
cheerleaders. The Princes and Princesses are the representatives from
the remaining teams. The court is announced at the Bonfire. Homecoming
day consists of all Home Games (except Flag) and food and fun. Each
team has been required to do their own decorating and party planning.
This is a fun day for all. The team moms will provide more information
on homecoming. Anyone with access to wood pallets, straw, paint and
time will be needed homecoming week.
- At the end of the year, usually late in January at the close of the
season, a banquet is held recognizing all of the teams.
- Fundraisers are a necessary part of this organization because field
and equipment maintenance and replacements cost a lot of money. Parent
participation in fundraisers help to make them a success. So please
- Volunteer.:
- Coaches and team moms are available to help you with any questions
you may have. If you have a question for the coaches, please arrive
early or see them after practice, as parents are not to be on the field
during practice time.
- If you have any skills or resources that you feel may help your team,
the club or organization, please see a coach, or one of the commissioners.
- The club requires that a responsible adult be at the field at all
times during practices and games.
- The placement on teams, playing time and positions of players is up
to the Head Coaches not the commissioner or the parent. THIS IS
NOT DEBATABLE. We hope this summary gives you an idea of what
to expect in football.
Good luck this season, we know you will have a lot of fun.
